Pune and Maharashtra are in store for more rain in the next 48 hours, with the formation of a low pressure area in the east-central and north-east Arabian Sea on Monday.

This condition will see Pune get a few spells of rain or thunder showers in the next 48 hours. Also, Mumbai, the Konkan coast, Thane and parts of north-west Maharashtra can expect fairly widespread rainfall in the next two days.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s director for weather forecasting, Medha Khole, the LPA is a result of an active north-east monsoon which has resulted in a strong easterly wave moving from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea across peninsular India.

Another significant contributory factor is the formation of a large trough formed between Lakshadweep and east Rajasthan moving across Goa, Konkan and Gujarat, causing moisture incursions.

According to Khole, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, Gujarat and eastern Rajasthan can expect fairly widespread to isolated heavy rain in the next 48 hours.
