Mumbai coach Chandrakant Pandit is a hard taskmaster. He isn't afraid of calling spade a spade and doesn't shy away from accepting the mistakes.

On Tuesday, the day one of the Ranji Trophy finals against Gujarat here, Mumbai batsmen succumbed to bad shot selections. It resulted in the defending champions in losing the grip after a promising start. Pandit said that his players lacked the temperament and some players couldn't hold on to playing their natural game.

"Basically, most of the players in the team like to play their shots. So, I think that little bit temperament is required to handle particular situation and probably we failed in that," Pandit said at the end of the day's play.

Batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal came both looked in good in the middle till they played some bad shots to return home.

However, Pandit didn't want to dwell on the issue. "I can't say anything about those dismissals everyone has seen the way they got out. Probably they could have left the ball and probably they could have stayed and tried their best to continue with that innings."

The former wicket-keeper batsman is confident that his team will bounce back. "We could have batted much better than what we did. Of course, some of the shots which we played were not required but ultimately Mumbai is known for that – we will definitely come back, we will come back strongly in the game."

Pandit, however, was impressed by the young talent Prithvi Shaw, who scored 71, the team's highest score on an otherwise sad day.

"Ya, he looks a very mature cricketer at this age, to be honest. The way he has batted in the last match and again today also, he looks very matured and I am sure that he has a long future."
