Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail believes that the decision to recall middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf just before the ongoing second Test against England has backfired.

Aamir said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) added extra pressure on the team’s struggling batsmen by including Yousuf in the squad so close to the Test.

Pakistan crumbled for just 72, their lowest ever total against England at Edgaston after winning the toss.

“It was a message to the batsmen that anybody who fails to score will be axed for the third Test. It added more pressure on our batters, who’ve flopped miserably,” The News quoted Sohail, as saying.

He further said that Yousuf should have played the Test.

“If you recall a senior batsman in such a manner than you have to play him. What’s the use of sending Yousuf to England and ten leaving him out for the Test. It turned out to counter-productive,” he added.
