As India get set to jet off to South Africa for the Test and ODI series in December the team is coming off a winning streak.

India boasts of Test and ODI wins against West Indies, Zimbabwe series win as well as the Champions Trophy triumph. In the pink of form at the moment, India has also seen a debate spring up if the team is the greatest ever?

The Indian batting has been spot on with Shikhar Dhawan managing to become the first player to score more than five ODI tons in 2013. In Tests too Dhawan has a great record after his century on debut. The left-hander has a special knack that involves big shots hit off both spinners as well as fast bowlers.

India are to start the tour with a best-of-three ODI series against on December 5 which will be followed by a two-match Test rubber from December 18.

Rohit Sharma has also risen and grown from an ODI specialist to a solid Test performer. Sharma's 100 plus on debut as a stellar knock that drew comparisons to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar who recently retired. The right-hander is a Mumbai boy like Tendulkar and the city now pines its hope on Sharma.

As Indian cricket's bad boy-turned-run machine, Virat Kohli has always been handy with the bat and has scored a record number of runs in his career so far and is seen as the next big thing. Having matured as an individual as well as a cricketer, Kohli as vice-captain to MS Dhoni is being groomed for the Indian captaincy.

In South Africa against the mighty pace bowling attack of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkell, the trio will have to deal with the short-ball on the bouncy wickets in the 'Rainbow Nation' as India chase to extend their record outside the comfort of home turf.

With Mohammad Shami emerging as a pacer to trust India can hope for a better show with the ball in South Africa. Zaheer Khan's return to the Test fold will also provide experience to the fast bowling attack in conditions conducive to the bowling form.

AB de Villiers and the South African team will surely have many surprises in store for India. The South African ODI captain is also in a battle with Kohli to lead the ODI batsmen's list.

Will India breathe fire like they have on all other teams in their path in the latter half of 2013? Will South Africa get over their choking form?

The true test of the MS Dhoni-lead team will be this series.
