Google's video sharing website YouTube plans to launch 100 new professionally produced TV channels in partnership with celebrities such as Madonna and Ashton Kutcher.

The channels, each offering 25 hours of programming a day, will be free of charge, supported by Google's advertising system, the Daily Mail reports.

The move is designed to turn YouTube into a rival to cable and satellite TV channels.

YouTube is said to be paying up to 100 million dollars to producers to take part, and up to five million dollars per channel.

The money is an advance on advertising money, Google will recoup its portion first before splitting the proceeds, the paper said.

Google declined to offer financial details of the deals, but said the majority of revenue will go to partners.

Othet participants include former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, comedian Amy Poehler, Office star Rainn Wilson, spiritual doctor Deepak Chopra and Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara.
