“The red carpet in India is divided into two parts — Western and Indian wear. In Bollywood, apart from Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan, most other actors are comfortable with gowns. The silhouette this season is more steam-lined and body-hugging; empire cuts are out. The gowns are more structured and have one element that stands out; so either it is the eye-catching detail like a stunning colour, the cut or the shoes. Also, most gowns are in deep tones like aubergine, deep carrot, red, shaded grey etc.

Interestingly, in the West we have seen Hollywood stars wearing new designers on the red carpet, which is great. I think that adds an element of freshness to the outfit. For the Indian red carpet this season, I am hoping for some sensibility. The stars should pick on the right designer and /or stylist to get the look right.”

Gavin's red carpet winners:
Freida Pinto, Katrina Kaif, Jessica Beil, Resse Witherspoon, Thandie Newton, Ashton Kutcher, Jake Gylenhall and Kanye West.

“The red carpet is all about being ultra-glam. It also depends on the location and the occasion. But most Indian actors are usually dressed in sarees and long gowns. The cocktail gowns are in but in solid colours like pink, red, black and peaches. To stand out on the red carpet stars should experiment with colours and cuts. Internationally stars take a lot of effort to make a statement. Even their hair is done up in French rolls and bouffants. Hair tied up is better than leaving it loose. Another dressing tip is shoes with details on the heel like figurines, studs and crystals. Shoes, bags and accessories are the new jewellery. Broad shoulders
are haute on the international fashion scene. Slowly they are trickling down to India too.”

Falguni's red carpet winners:
Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor.

“Indian red carpet events are different from the international ones. There, people take a lot of care in deciding what to wear. For them walking the red carpet is almost an event by itself. People will dress differently for an Academy Awards red carpet, a red carpet for a film premiere or a perfume launch. Here, such distinctions don’t exist. The focus is just on ‘looking good’. Another difference is that internationally movie stars are not seen as models. There, for designers the red carpet is the place to showcase trends and creations. But in India Bollywood stars have replaced the concept of a supermodel. So while internationally the red carpet becomes a place for a designer to start a trend, in India a star already associated with a designer just showcases his/her outfit.

Rick's red carpet winners:
Kangna Ranaut, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicole Kidman, Malaika Arora-Khan, Preity Zinta, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal, George Clooney, Robert Pattison and Brad Pitt.
