ICC worried over lack of international cricket in Pakistan

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is concerned that the lack of international cricket in Pakistan could severely dent the future of the game in the troubled country.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said that the apex cricketing body is worried over lack of international cricket in Pakistan, adding that the it might send a hand-picked squad to the country to cover the lack of bi-lateral series.

Lorgat, however, clarified that security intelligence would play a key role in deciding whether such tours were viable.

“It will always be dependent on the expert advice of the security experts, but we think that perhaps towards the end of next year we must start looking at what the horizon looks like and if it is at all possible (to send a team to Pakistan),” Lorgat told BBC Radio.


“We will assess the situation very, very carefully. We know that we can’t leave things as they are if it is at all possible to play in Pakistan. I’m not just suggesting a bi-lateral series, it may be an ICC XI Whether it’s a youth team, and older team, or whatever... I would go with that team as well,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the ICC has appointed former England captain Mike Brearley and ex-Australian skipper Greg Chappell as ambassadors to help the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at a time when it is struggling to host foreign teams in the country due to security concerns.
