With the Namma Metro construction work scheduled to start on the Dr Ambedkar Veedhi section, the existing two gates of the Vidhana Soudha will be closed permanently.

The two gates, one facing Gopala Gowda Circle on the south-east of Vidhana Soudha and the other on the north-east (next to the Ambedkar statue, which has been shifted) will be closed for two years.

Entry will be through the gate next to the MS Building. The gate opens to both Vikasa Soudha and Vidhana Soudha, and the exit will be on the north-east close to the Raj Bhavan periphery.

As soon as the metro work commences, the vehicular traffic on Ambedkar Veedhi will be diverted through Cubbon Park, where a new road is being laid.

“There will be another deviation after the MS Building section. This is to allow smooth flow of traffic on Ambedkar Veedhi towards GPO Circle. The GPO Circle will be closed, besides Minsk Square, in front of the Telephone Bhavan,” said a traffic police officer.

In a bid to divert traffic passing through the GPO Circle, Metro engineers have completed the laying of the road between KGID building and the chief electoral office.

“There will not be any parking allowed on the roads in front of the KGID building and adjacent areas. This is to allow free flow of traffic on King’s Road, joining the Queen’s Road,” said a source in the Namma Metro project.
Kumaraswamy, deputy commissioner of police in charge of Vidhana Soudha’s security, said the police were waiting for clearance from the Namma Metro to open new gates of the Soudha.

“We are yet to get any response from the Namma Metro. The gates will be ready in two to three days,” said the officer.

The Metro work in front of the Vidhana Soudha on Ambedkar Veedhi for its underground section is expected to throw the traffic movement out of gear.

“We will plan accordingly, so that there is no traffic gridlock on the section leading to the high court, Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha. There will be a ban on parking on King’s Road,” another officer said.
