Released 28 years after the original, Indian 2 (Hindustan 2 in Hindi), opened on a bumper note in the south, but had a dismal start in Hindi. Indian 2, the direct sequel to Indian (1996) is also directed by Shankar, and Kamal Haasan reprises his iconic vigilante Senapathy, along with Rakul Preet Singh, and Siddharth in key roles.

The box office collection of the first day is out, and as per the industry tracker portal Sacnilk, Indian 2 has roughly earned Rs 26 crores in India from all the languages. The movie has performed well in Tamil and earned Rs 17 crores. In Telugu, the film earned Rs 7.9 cores. However, in Hindi, the film could only manage to earn Rs 1.1 crores.

When it comes to comparison, Indian 2 failed to beat the opening of Kamal's last solo hit, Vikram. The 2022 action thriller of Lokesh Kanagraj opened with Rs 32 crores (Rs 29 crore in Tamil, Rs 2.8 crore in Telugu, and Rs 0.25 crore in Hindi). Before Indian 2, Kamal was seen in Nag Ashwin's blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD. The Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone-starrer earned Rs 95 crores in India from all languages.

Indian 2: Zero Tolerance is the sequel of the vigilante action thriller film Indian released in 1996 which featured Kamal Haasan in a dual role and two Bollywood actresses Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar as the leading ladies. The film was dubbed in Hindi as Hindustani and won three National Awards including one for Kamal himself for the Best Actor. Indian was also India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the 69th Academy Awards, but failed to get nominated.
