May 28 was the first death anniversary of actor Suresh Chatwal who passed away after a prolonged illness. Apart from acting in several films like Munnabhai MBBS, Koyla and Karan Arjun he is best remembered for his serials Nukkad and FIR. Kavita Kaushik, who was his costar in FIR, shares her memories of working with the late actor...

“Sureshji was part of the show since it began. However, he would not be a part of every schedule due to his deteriorating health. On the sets, the bonding between all of us was personal more than professional. Director Shashank (Bali) used to respect Sureshji a lot. And the vibe on the sets was drawn from Shashank and the kind of person I am. We used to play a lot of pranks and even Sureshji would join in. He was like a favourite dadaji or senior person you have in your house. We used to sit together, joke, and he would regale us with fun stories, inspiring stories as well as gossip about the actors he had worked with. He had acted with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Danny Dengzonpa and Rajesh Khanna among others. He was our industry story teller. He would also tell us about the time he did Nukkad and how proud he was to be a part of that serial.

We used to share our lunch. I used to bring home-cooked food, which he loved. I am a North Indian, so I would bring kadhi-chawal and rajma. I don’t like spicy food and since Sureshji’s health did not permit masaledaar khaana, he used to look forward to the food I got.

He always blessed me when I entered the sets and that’s something I will always remember. He was a great source of positive energy.”
