In the competitive entertainment industry, even star kids find it difficult sometimes to make it to the top. However, there is one outsider who had a tough childhood and is now one of the top comedians in India.

The actor we are talking about never failed to impress the audience with his comic timing and has worked in over 300 films. There was a time when he used to get food only when he worked but is now worth Rs 250 crore. He is none other than Johnny Lever.

Johnny Lever is born and brought up in the slums of Mumbai. The actor revealed in an interview that he left school after class 7th. He said, “My father was an alcoholic, due to which he never paid any attention to us, but it was my elder uncle who paid us for our fees and ration. So after a while, I got infuriated and left school. But I got a lot of love while I was in school, I used to imitate everyone.”

In a recent interview with Beer Biceps, The actor revealed that his father was an alcoholic and used to indulge in rowdyism. At 13, he got so fed up with his father that he wanted to end his life. He said, “At the age of 13, I went to a railway track to commit suicide. I was fed up with my father. So I went on the track and the train was coming. Suddenly the faces of my three younger sisters appeared in front of my eyes saying, ‘What will happen to us?’ and I immediately moved away from the track.”

Before making an impact and people laughing at his performance in mainstream cinema, the comedian used to sell pens on the streets of Pune and to do impressions of yesteryear actors like Ashok Kumar and Jeevan. In fact, Johny had revealed in the past that he would get paid Rs 100 a day for doing these impressions in public.

The actor then started performing stand-up comedy in musical shows. He is one of the first stand-up comedians in India and is widely regarded as the pioneer of the stand-up comedy profession in India. This is also how he got his first-ever break in Bollywood.

At one of his shows, actor Sunil Dutt noticed his talent and potential and offered him his first movie Dard Ka Rishta, and then after this he never looked back. He has worked in over 300 films and given several hits like Baazigar, Tezaab, Khiladi, Karan Arjun, Raja Hindustani, Aunty No 1, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Nayak, Aankiyon Se Goli Maare, Coolie No. 1 and more.

He became India’s top comedian and the films seemed to be incomplete without his comedy. Johnny Lever now lives a luxurious life, owns a lavish 3-BHK apartment in Mumbai, and reportedly has a whopping net worth of Rs 250 crore.

He will now be seen in the movie Welcome To The Jungle which also stars Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Dutt along with others in key roles. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres in December this year.
