In the film industry, an actor’s star status if often directly related to their draw among the audiences. This is measured by their performance at the box office, which is largely considered a good indicator of someone’s stardom. There have been very few incidents of stars not losing their sheen and stardom despite consecutive failures. One such case happened recently when a top star went through a rough patch, but still managed to sign a dozen films.

The star whose films lost Rs 800 crore at box office

Akshay Kumar has been one of the most successful and bankable stars in Indian cinema history. In a career that has stretched across three decades, he has given over 40 clean hits, and was, for a decade, the highest-grossing actor in India. And yet, the last few years have been challenging for him at the box office. In the last three years, Akshay has seen seven flops - Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Selfiee, Mission Raniganj, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Of them, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Samrat Prithviraj are amongst the biggest flops in the history of Indian cinema. Trade analysts estimate that these seven films have collectively lost up to Rs 800 crore at the box office.

Akshay Kumar’s unwavering star power

But the box office flops have not affected Akshay Kumar’s star power. One of the reasons is that the actor has also given hits in this period, most notably Sooryavanshi and OMG 2. But despite the flops, he has 10 released lined up in the next two years, starting with Sarfira, the Hindi remake of the National Award-winning Soorarai Pottru. Akshay is also set to appear in Singham Again, following which he will lead Sky Force and Khel Khel Mein.

In 2025, the actor will reprise his iconic roles in three different franchises as he will star in Hera Pheri 3, Jolly LLB 3, and Welcome to the Jungle. Akshay will also make his Telugu debut in a cameo as Lord Shiva in the period drama Kannappa, along with an extended cameo as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Marathi film Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat. The actor will round the year off with Shankara.
