India won the T20 World Cup title after 17 years as they beat South Africa by 7 runs in the final on Saturday. At the Kensington Oval in Barbados, India secured their second T20 World Cup title and also ended their 11-year wait for the ICC trophy.  Earlier, the MS Dhoni-led India then won the first season of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Team India’s triumph also marks a special moment for Virat Kohli as he becomes the only player in the world to win the ICC Under-19, T20, ODI World Cups, and Champions Trophy titles.

Kohli led India to ICC U-19 World Cup glory in 2008. Later, he went on to win the 2011 ODI World Cup under MS Dhoni’s guidance.

He also won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy at Birmingham. Last night, he created history by winning his first-ever T20 World Cup title.

After having a poor run in the 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, Kohli finally shines in the final as he hammers 76(59) against Proteas, contributing to the Team’s total of 176/7. This also marked the highest total ever in the T20 World Cup final.

Not only this, the 35-year-old also earned himself the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his scintillating knock in the final.

Meanwhile, Kohli and Rohit Sharma also announced their retirement from T20 internationals following their World Cup triumph on Saturday.

In his 16-year-long career, Kohli has played 125 T20I matches and amassed 4188 runs including one century.

On the other hand, Rohit has participated in 159 T20I matches, scoring 4231 runs including 5 centuries. On Saturday, Rohit became the only Indian player to win the T20 World Cup title twice in his career.
