As the television boom began in India in the mid-90s, lots of young actors found a new avenue for their talent. TV soaps were a good way to get successful and famous. But for many TV stars, films still remained the ultimate goal. Many actors switched to films after attaining success on TV but only a few managed to carry that success to the big screen too. While the examples of Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan, and Sushant Singh Rajput are obvious, there was another name who did get success in films after switching over from TV. However, that success was shortlived.

The actress who began career with two blockbusters

Gracy Singh first started acting on TV at the age of 17 when she appeared in the soap Amanat. She followed it up with a supporting role in Prithviraj Chauhan. After a couple of minor parts in films like Hu Tu Tu and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Gracy found her break in Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. The film was a blockbuster, one of India’s highest-grossing films of 2001 and was even nominated for an Oscar. Two years later, Gracy appeared in another big success – Munnabhai MBBS.

    How Gracy Singh’s career derailed

But these two successes were followed by a string of box office failures for Gracy, as her next releases – Muskaan, Shart, Wajahh, and Yehi Hai Zindagi – all flopped. In 2007, with fewer Hindi film offers, Gracy signed a Punjabi film. However, the biggest blunder of her career happened the following year, when she starred in KRK’s Bollywood debut Deshdrohi. Regarded as one of the worst films ever made, Deshdrohi was a box office bomb and was critically panned. It effectively ended Gracy’s career. She appeared in a number of Hindi and Kannada films but none of them were successful.
