Sridevi made a comeback to the big screens after a hiatus of 15 years with the movie English Vinglish. The actress impressed everyone with her performance and the film turned out to be a huge success at the box office. However, do you know that she was not the first choice for the film?

Yes, before Sridevi, Gauri Shinde, the director of the film, wanted to cast another superstar in the Hindi version of English Vinglish and Sridevi was supposed to be in the South version of the film. The actress was Gauri's first choice none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

In a conversation with Zoom TV, Boney Kapoor revealed that Gauri Shinde was supposed to do English Vinglish with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. And R Balki wanted to do it with Sridevi in South Indian languages. However, he then questioned Balki why he wanted to do the film only in South Indian languages with Sridevi. He added that there couldn’t be anybody better than her to do the Hindi version as well.

Boney Kapoor quipped, “There couldn’t be anybody better to do the Hindi version too. She will be more convincing as a person who can’t speak English. She’s (Aishwarya) been Miss India. I mean, I don’t know if this should be there or not. I feel she (Sridevi) is far more suited than anybody else.”

English Vinglish stars Sridevi as Shashi Godbole, a small entrepreneur who makes snacks and sweets. Shashi enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English-speaking skills. The film also starred Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand, and Navika Kotia along with others in key roles. Made in Rs 20 crore, the film earned Rs 83 crore worldwide and became a huge box office success.

Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor recently shared exciting details about No Entry 2. He announced that Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Arjun Kapoor are set to star in the sequel, which is scheduled to start filming in December 2024 and aims for a release in 2025.
