The makers of Prabhas’ upcoming action thriller Salaar Part One – Ceasefire have confirmed that the film will indeed release in theatres on December 22 as had been reported last week. This means that Salaar will have to battle it out at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, setting one of the biggest clashes of modern times in Indian cinema.

On Friday morning, Hombale Films, which is producing Salaar, tweeted new release announcement posters of the film with Prabhas in the centre. “Coming Bloody Soon! #SalaarCeaseFire Worldwide Release On Dec 22, 2023,” read the tweet. The film is directed by Prasanth Neel, best known for the blockbuster KGF franchise and also strars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruthi Haasan.

Shah Ruk Khan-starrer Dunki has long been reported to be releasing on the same date. The film, which also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. After the stupendous success of SRK’s Jawan and Pathaan, anticipation for Dunki is sky high. Amid reports of Salaar clashing with Dunki, there were reports that the latter may postpone its release. However, on Wednesday, during a Twitter AMA, Shah Rukh reiterated that Dunki’s release is ‘fixed’ for Christmas.

Given the star power of the two actors, the directors’ credentials, and the sheer scale of the two films, it is one of the biggest box office clashes of Indian cinema. Fans seem to be divided on who will fin but ardent cinephiles are happy they will have two films to choose from on the Christmas weekend. “Biggest clash ever,” wrote one fan. Another tweeted, “This is stupid. Both will hurt each other’s business.” Another comment read, “I am happy I have an action film and a social drama to choose from. Who cares about clashes.”
