This Indian film has been watched for 1 billion minutes, has no star or songs; not Jawan, Animal, RRR, Kalki 2898 AD

With a proliferation of OTT platforms in India over the last half decade, it was speculated that the streaming space in India would soon reach saturation. Yet somehow, films and shows on most big streaming platforms in the country continue to break viewing records every month. A Bollywood film has now become one of the few to record 1 billion minutes viewed. What’s astonishing is that the film in question has no big star, no songs, and no action or the usual ingredients of a potboiler.

The Indian film with 1 billion minutes viewed

Apoorv Singh Karki’s legal drama Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which released on Zee5 last year, has managed the unique honour of being watched for 1 billion minutes. The streaming platform announced this on Friday during the streaming release announcement of Bajpayee’s latest film Bhaiyaa Ji. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is one of the rare films to have released in theatres after its OTT release. After its success and critical acclaim following the original release, the makers of the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer brought it to theatres in limited cities across India.

All about Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai

Bandaa, as the film was referred to as, was a legal drama inspired by the trial of self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu on sexual assault and rape charges. The film dealt with advocate PC Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee) crossing all hurdles to get the victim justice. The film was largely a dialogue-heavy drama with long courtroom scenes. There were no songs. Yet, the film touched a chord with the audiences who praised its realism and presentation, along with the message it sent. Bandaa was nominated for several awards, winning five trophies (including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor) at the 2023 Filmfare OTT Awards.
