Prasanna Kumar Motupalli has been leading NLC India Limited since January 2023 as the Chairman and Managing Director. NLC India is a central public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. Prasanna has over 34 years of experience in the power sector and coal sector. He began his career as an Executive Trainee with NTPC in 1988. Today, in his current role, he leads the government company which has a market capitalisation of Rs 17,776 crore. 

He is a gold medalist in Mechanical Engineering from Bapatla College of Engineering, Andhra Pradesh. He also holds an MBA in four specializations -- Operations Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management and Human Resource Management. Prasanna was born and brought up in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 

Prior to assuming charge as CMD in NLCIL, Prasanna served as Managing Director of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL). Before this, he was an Executive Director, heading the vertical of NTPC (Corporate Fuel Management).

He is also a topper of the Energy Auditor Examination of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, GOI and also a Certified Level-D Exam holder of the International Project Management Association (IPMA). Prasanna is a Fellow of The Institute of Engineers and has presented and published more than 50 papers in Power and Coal sectors.
