Who is Dinesh Kumar Khara? Know all about new SBI chairman

The Centre on Tuesday appointed Dinesh Kumar Khara as the new Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI). Khara's appointment comes into effect from October 7, for a period of three years.

On August 28, the Bank Board Bureau had recommended the appointment of Dinesh Kumar Khara to the post of chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI).

The 59-year-old banker, Dinesh Kumar Khara, did his Masters in Business Administration from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University and is a post-graduate in Commerce.

Khara joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1984 and has over 33 years of experience in all facets of commercial banking such as retail credit, SME/corporate credit, deposit mobilization, international banking operations and branch management.

Khara was appointed as managing director of SBI in August 2016 for a three-year term. He got a two-year extension in 2019 after review of his performance.

Khare was instrumental in merging five associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank with SBI effective April 2017.
