Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, on Monday, has criticised Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) for its decision to relax the 'one-year waiting period' for wards of government employees to be considered eligible to play for local associations they are transferred to.

Ganguly, who is head of BCCI's technical committee, has even pulled up GM Cricket Operations, Saba Karim, for his consent for the same.

As per new rules, "wards of government employees on transfer can play as local players on submission of their respective parents' transfer order and the Aadhaar card of the player which must have the new address".

Karim's reasoning behind the change in rule was that "it was felt that since the government employees have no control over their transfer, the wards of such employees should not be subjected to the one-year rule laid down by BCCI".

But BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary objected to the change immediately and reminded the COA that "changing the existing rule without taking the consent of office-bearers or BCCI's General Body" is not the way to do it.
Choudhary had gone on record to say that this new move didn't have any merit because there was no need to give special preference to wards of just government employees.

Ganguly, in his letter, backed Choudhary's stand on the issue. He has even gone ahead to question the process followed by COA where a number of decisions taken at technical committee meetings were also overlooked.

"I am really surprised it (COA decision) goes through without consultation. Even decisions taken at the technical committee meeting has been overlooked and new rules have been followed. It's complete chaos and against the basic constitution of the BCCI where the respective committees are holding meetings. Hopefully, the COA will understand the importance," wrote Ganguly, president of Cricket Association of Bengal.
