Aspirants from a variety of fields, including engineering, law, medicine, and more, come with the hope of passing the UPSC CSE, one of India's most challenging tests. The life story of IAS official Omkar Pawar also demonstrates how an engineer achieved his goal of getting to one of the top of the government ranks.

Who is Omkar Pawar?

Omkar Pawar, an IAS officer who is from Satara, a small hamlet in Maharashtra, talks about his difficult journey from engineering to the UPSC exams. His mother wanted him to engage in administrative services after being shocked to observe the respect they garnered in their community. Only Omkar could have made their dreams a reality.

He asserts that he never wanted to be an engineer and that he first received his education in a small country government school before going on to complete his engineering degree in Pune. Omkar claims that due to his academic success and small-town upbringing, his family had to decide in favor of him pursuing an engineering career.

Despite the fact that Omkar did not think or understand the UPSC till his last year of engineering, he was motivated by IAS officer and former Municipal Commissioner Shreekar Paradeshi to start his IAS career because of the job that he was doing. Omkar currently holds the position of assistant collector in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, as per his LinkedIn profile.

Omkar was presented with a lucrative job offer as a software engineer after earning his engineering degree, however, his mind remained focused on becoming an IAS. His built-in urge to work for the general population and in rural areas pulled him toward his aim despite the seeming allure of corporate life and making an appealing salary.

He made the brave decision to resign from his position and focus exclusively on studying for the IAS exam. He made his UPSC debut in 2015, and after four unsuccessful tries, he was chosen for a total of three spots.

He was made an IPS in 2020 after serving as an assistant commander in the Central Armed Forces in 2018. But when Omkar was able to earn All India Rank 194 in 2022, his ambition of being an IAS officer came true.
