While celebrating Kalki 2898 AD's success, Nag Ashwin highlighted the fact that the film has been able to earn over Rs 1000 crore globally without featuring any 'gore' or 'obscenity' in it. Some netizens are claiming that he took a dig at Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal.
Kalki 2898 AD continues to dominate the box office. The epic sci-fi dystopian action drama has crossed Rs 1000 crore worldwide, as per the producers. Celebrating the film's success, director Nag Ashwin penned a note highlighting the fact that the movie has achieved the milestone of Rs 1000 crore without featuring 'gore' or 'obscenity'. He soon deleted his post when he came to know that his post has been misinterpreted as a dig at Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, which was called out for its excessive violence and bold scenes between Ranbir Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Nag Ashwin shared a poster of Prabhas as Karna in the film and wrote, "This milestons, this number is obviously massive for a young team like ours. But the fact that we achieved it without blood, gore, obscenity, provocative or exploitative content, means so much. A big thank you to the audience and the actors who stood behind us. Indian Cinema #repatikosam (for tomorrow)."
One user on X (previously known as Twitter) shared a screenshot of the filmmaker's now-deleted post and wrote, "Budget is 4x times of Animal and have casting like Amitabh, Kamal Hassan, Deepika Padukone, Dulquer Salman etc etc and comparing yourself with Vanga who made blockbuster with just music screenplay and Ranbir Kapoor. @nagashwin7 enduku ayya comparison (why are you comparing)."
"True nobody is gonna comment on you @nagashwin7 for using our religion and culture to score a blockbuster. Your movie was average. The interval bang and climax saved it. Never comment on others' genre and style of making movies", wrote another netizen criticising Nag Ashwin.
However, some users on Reddit defended Nag Ashwin. When his post reached the BollyBlindsNGossip sub on Reddit, one netizen wrote, "Don't think it's just for Vanga. Seems like a comment on the recent fascination with excessive gore, masochism, and super hero masala action, in general. And rightly so", while another added, "It's not specifically aimed at Vanga. If you check most of the big budget films from last year, they had a lot of unnecessary blood and gore. Examples: Jailer, Salaar, Animal."

If we take into account the trade figures, the Nag Ashwin directorial has earned Rs 920 crore and surpassed Animal, which grossed Rs 915 crore. Prabhas, who headlined Kalki 2898 AD along with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, has a film with Sandeep Reddy Vanga titled Spirit lined up in his kitty.
