The Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party. Meanwhile, all the exit polls have predicted the BJP returning to power with a resounding majority, with further inroads in Odisha, West Bengal and southern states.

    "Everyone should accept it with respect...": Congress leader Manish Tewari ahead of counting of votes



    Ahead of the counting of the votes, Congress MP and party candidate from Chandigarh Manish Tewari on Tuesday said that whatever the decision of the Lok Sabha elections comes he will "respect" that, adding that this is the capability of Indian democracy.

    "It is Tuesday, Hanuman's day. People have expressed their opinions. The opinions are locked in the EVMs. The EVMs will open and the opinion will come out. Whatever the people's decision will be, everyone should accept it with respect. This is the capability of Indian democracy," Tiwary said.

    The mammoth exercise to count votes polled for the Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections will begin at 8 am on Tuesday.

    "Kafan bandh ke aaye...": Pappu Yadav urges party workers to be battle-ready to save democracy on counting day



     Independent candidate from Bihar's Purnea, Pappu Yadav urged all workers to come to the counting centres ready with "kafan" prepared to sacrifice their lives while saving democracy on the day of the counting of votes on Tuesday.

    "Agar zabardasti loktantra ki maut hogi, toh Mahabharata ka sangram hoga (If democracy is killed forcefully, a fight like the Mahabharata will commence). To save democracy every worker in Purnea and Bihar should come ready to die tomorrow. Kafan bandh ke aaye (come with your shrouds). Har maathe pe kafan ho (May all of you come with shrouds over your head)," Yadav said in a press conference on Monday.

    Akhilesh accuses UP Govt of illegally detaining opposition party workers ahead of counting day



    Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the district magistrates and the police administration of several districts of Uttar Pradesh of illegally detaining political workers of opposition parties so that they do not participate in the counting of votes on Tuesday.

    "The honourable Supreme Court, the Election Chief @ECISVEEP @CEOUP and the Police Chief @dgpup @Uppolice should immediately take cognizance of the fact that in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, apart from Mirzapur, Aligarh, Kannauj, the District Magistrate and the Police Administration are illegally detaining the political workers of the opposition in their homes so that they cannot participate in the counting of votes tomorrow," Yadav said in a post on 'X' on Monday.

    Uncontested polls: EC's role comes in when candidates withdraw under duress

    Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday said in cases of uncontested polls, the Election Commission steps in when other candidates in the fray withdraw nominations under duress. He also indicated that any provision that bars a person from being declared winner in case of uncontested polls may not be in accordance with the law.

    He was responding to a question at a press conference on a Supreme Court ruling on 'none of the above' option vis-a-vis candidates who are elected to Lok Sabha or assemblies unopposed.
