The Supreme court has issued notice to the Centre as well as the Delhi, Punjab and Haryana governments and said they will have to respond by Thursday.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the farmers protests in and around Delhi could soon become a 'national issue', suggesting a solution be found urgently. Furthermore, the apex court suggested a panel be formed with representatives from all stakeholders - the farmers' associations as well as government nominees.
The court has issued notice to the Centre as well as the Delhi, Punjab and Haryana governments and said they will have to respond by Thursday on this.
Zee News reporter Brahm Prakash Dubey spoke to the honourable MoS Commerce Som Parkash, who represents Hoshiarpur in Parliament and was part of the talks with the farmer groups.
In response to questions, Som Parkash said that what ever would be the verdict of the Supreme Court, it would be accepted by all parties. He further said that the issue of farmers' protest is going on since a long time, farmers are sitting on the border, the government has had many rounds of talks with them and he is happy that now the honourable Supreme Court has commented on the issue.
Som Parkash said that as per the suggestions of the Supreme Court, a committee would be formed, where along with the Central government, leaders of the farmer unions would also be a party to it. He said that on Thursday whatever verdict the Supreme Court would give would be accepted by all parties and finally there would be a solution to the problem.
Som Parkash further went on to state that when government was in talks with the farmer unions, then they had given the proposal to the farmers to make a committe of five to seven people. But then the farmer leaders had said that they all would join, and he had said ok to it. But now the Supreme Court has said, so its fine.
Speaking on the farmers' issue, Som Parkash said that this is the first time that so many people have surrounded the National Capital region. This is a national issue and this needs to be resolved. Whatever has been the demands of the farmers, the government tried its level best to agree with them.
He further said that now whatever would be the decision of the Supreme Court, everyone would be bound to accept it. Som Parkash said that whatever the farmers have demanded, the government has accepted all.
Som Parkash said that the matter was now in the Supreme Court. Tomorrow, whatever the court would say about what the committee would do, what would be its range, the government would take a stand according to it.
