A group of friends who were struggling with depression and uncertainty during the pandemic derived the biggest idea of their lives from a Netflix marathon. Their fledgling startup had failed, and they were looking for the next big thing when binging series after series gave them inspiration to do something different. They noticed that, despite the general public's desire for entertainment, a gap had been created by the closing of theaters such as PVR and INOX. What if they could create the large screen's allure in a more intimate setting?

Driven by this notion, they made the decision to turn their love of movies into a business. They introduced The Binge Town, a private theater chain that provided the thrilling movie experience that patrons desired while maintaining comfort and safety. Although they only had one theater at first, the idea soon caught on with patrons looking for a way out of the monotony of life under lockdown.

Slowly, The Binge Town evolved to be more than just a location to watch movies. Customers saw it as the ideal setting for celebrations, including anniversaries, birthday parties, and unique times spent with close friends and family. The founders welcomed this change and added decoration and event services to make movie-watching more enjoyable and to make treasured memories.

“It was in the last week of December 2021 that construction of Binge Town's first branch began in the bustling neighborhood of Koramangala, Bangalore. Just one month later, in January 2022, we proudly opened our doors, unveiling a single theater that promised to transform the way people celebrated special occasions. And since then, there has been no looking back,” says Chetan Agrawal, one of the co-founders.

The Binge Town has progressively increased the range of services it offers, developing into an all-in-one hub for organizing festivities and surprises. Binge Town now offers a variety of services in addition to the theater, such as cakes, photoshoots, food and drink, and gifts.

So how does it work exactly? In essence, The Binge Town is a private party venue meant for intimate gatherings of four to five people, though it can hold up to fifteen depending on the size of the room. Every private celebration area has a surround sound system and a large screen, which sets it apart from other private theater celebration venues

Numerous services are available at The Binge Town, such as gifts, cakes, decorations, photo props, food and beverages, and dry ice smoke effect. Clients can choose the branch and theater based on the size of their company and style of design, and reserve a seat by paying an advance of Rs 750. The customer can select extra services as needed, and on the day of the celebration, they can pay the remaining amount at the theater.

Fog entry, photoshoot and gifts are some of the most popular add-on services that customers choose for their celebrations.

As of July 2024, The Binge Town has 13 locations spread over three cities, providing 46 celebration venues in total. There are five branches and fourteen celebration spaces in Bangalore. The biggest market in Binge Town, Delhi, has four locations and 20 areas for celebrations. There are four branches and 12 celebration spaces in Hyderabad.

The biggest driver behind The Binge Town’s growth across different cities, according to Chetan, is the love the team has received from customers. “We are almost always sold out because of the demand we have in the market, and the revenue from this helps fuel our growth. The level of customer happiness motivates us to expand our services to new areas – making celebrations memorable, affordable and pocket-friendly for the common man. Another reason is our strong team of five partners who have invested their entire savings into this venture, and are putting consistent efforts to make it work. And finally, our employees are fully committed to our cause, and want to provide the best experience to each customer. As of July 2024, we have a total of about 150 employees,” Chetan adds.

The Binge Town's dedication to providing excellent customer service sets them apart from rivals. Thus far, they have completed about 50,000 reservations. “This gives us a distinct set of experiences that help us make effective decisions that improve the client experience. Secondly, we are meticulous in all we do. When we make major judgments, we take into account all the little details and think long-term. Thirdly, we really think that providing clients with value is important. Every time we make a decision, we ask ourselves if it will improve the customer experience. Finally, we have a strong culture of soliciting and analyzing client feedback. Every customer of The Binge Town is questioned via a feedback channel about their experience one day following their reservation,” explains Chetan.
