At the 15th edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in New York that concluded May-end, producer and composer Sahej Bakshi not only got to meet and interact with some famous names but also met American rapper, producer Flying Lotus. Talking about his experience at the academy, Sahej says, “It’s kind of what every musician dreams of.

The Academy selects 30 participants from across the globe, who get the opportunity to work in well-equipped studios, attend guest lectures, interact with other musicians and of course make music together, with a different gig happening every night.” Though he was invited to attend this year, Sahej plans to apply as a participant next year with the only past Indian one being Kolkata-based drummer Jivraj Singh.

His most memorable moment from the trip was meeting Flying lotus. “It was unbelievable, he just hung out with us without any managers or anything. I got a chance to talk to him and even found out that he has family connections in India. It was quite a fan moment,”
says Sahej who’s just started work on his next EP which is inspired by his entire trip. It will feature some collaborations too, but nothing is finalised yet.

The musician also recently remixed a couple of songs from Swarathma’s Topiwalleh album. “Even though the band is more folk rock, they’re very diverse. I felt it vibes well with my musicality. I reinterpreted it from the electronic point of view,” adds Sahej, who will be touring with the band to Pune, New Delhi and possibly Bengaluru.
