If you thought a travelling case was all of six sides of boring iron and just suited for dumping your non-essentials, think again. The same drab iron trunk makes a transformation in the hands of designer and artist Rashmi Dogra to become a part of high-end luxury travel baggage.

After three years of professional painting, Rashmi has moved from canvas to lifestyle with her label Fluke Design Company to make a range of bags and travel accessories – clutches, handbags, big iron trunks and much more. Rashmi says, “I wanted to reach out to more people with my art, but always had an eye for fashion. I asked myself, why not carry art on a clutch?”

The first product took a year to finalise as it was important to test the durability of the ingredients and colour over seasonal changes. After getting a clientele list of Bollywood actors, people who are part of showbiz and international buyers, Rashmi turned her attention to transforming iron trunks with her creative expertise.

Her quirky sense of fashion comes through stupendously in the final product that comes out of an iron trunk – an original and individual style statement that will guarantee several head turns. Interestingly, Rashmi says while she would not want to typecast her buyers, people who travel long distances with heavy equipment and still want to maintain a flamboyant style statement of their own swear by her trunks. She recounts, “I have a popular French photographer who has bought my iron trunks in the past. She writes back to me every time she is stopped at international airports to admire her piece of luggage.”

In fact the photographer who bought a Kathakali dance-themed trunk also maintains a blog where she has mentioned the artist’s works on several occasions.
For each of the trunks painted with Italian cow paints, oil paints and finished with lacquer, they come in every size according to the need of the buyer, and is even powder quoted from inside.
While her usual trunks are 20 inches in length, depending on the specifications, sizes can go up. Rashmi says, “A lot of people prefer to buy small sizes as they choose to make it a household accessory rather than use it for rough travelling. But for those who want to stand out in a crowd, this luxury travel luggage is a must!”
