With weddings probably being the most important day in people’s lives, every couple tries to make it as unique as possible. From bringing in unique themes to incorporating new concepts, weddings have definitely become a lavish one.

This wedding season saw an extravagant wedding celebration, that of the high profile couple Rohan Murthy and Lakshmi Srinivas. Apart from the much talked about guests and the elegant outfits that they sported for the wedding, the celebration also saw an interesting inclusion. Yes, their wedding celebration was a scented one where the entire banquet was laced with the smell of their favourite scent — lavender! With a particular scent enhancing the entire mood, lacing your wedding with fragrance seems to be the new buzzword.

Rohan’s fragranced wedding banquet was provided by Ripple Fragrances Private Limited and talking about the trends of fragrances in the wedding market, Kiran Ranga, chief fragrance creator and managing director of the company, says, “Today, fragrances are an integral part of weddings and we try to incorporate them in invites, gift bags, photo albums, banquets halls, to name a few. We have recognised the potential in this field and used our fragrances through delivery systems like ‘reed diffusers’ when they have to fragrance the banquet hall with the pleasant scent.”

They have also come up with customised gifts for weddings, where they incorporate the fragrance in the gifts. “Scented candles and aroma combo sets have always been popular gifting options and now they’re being created for wedding guests as well. We have come up with options of scented candles as even small bags of potpourri, which are not bulky and can be packed beautifully as a thank you note for the guests,” he adds.

However, it is important to choose the right fragrance for your wedding, Kiran points out. “A wedding scent should convey happiness, be present but not overwhelming, and complement the setting — usually a beautiful blend of flowers, scented candles, melodies background score, and gorgeous wedding trousseau. Most of all, the scent should be calm and joyful. If the scent is new to the bride, whenever she smells it, she will remember her wedding,” he says.

They have different kinds of wedding fragrances for different types of wedding. For a South Indian setting, traditional scents like sandalwood, jasmine are used while a North Indian affair, usually takes to rose, lavender, marigold, etc. For couples looking for a way out of tradition, aromas like violet vanilla, amber, melon, pine, tube rose, orange blossom can be used.
