Two months after they started a protest against fund cuts, students at Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted their memorandum of demands to the independent committee formed by the instutute’s governing board on Saturday.

A delegation of seven students met the committee consisting of Professor VN Rajasekharan Pillai, former UGC chairman, and Thanksy Francis Thekkekara, former director, NAAC.

“Over the last few days, there has been no positive assurance from the administration about our demands. They have stopped meeting students and there is no effort to engage with us. We submitted our demands to the independent committee and are hoping all our issues are resolved,” said Fahad Ahmed, General Secretary of the TISS Student Union.

Ahmed said despite the administration’s claim that only a few are supporting the protest, the student body has submitted signatures of over 200 students for the demands. “We have got huge support from former students and the academia” added Ahmed.
