On the eve of International Yoga Day, out of the 800 registered employees who were supposed to participate, only 100 to 150 attended the event, leaving the government red-faced. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took serious note of the matter.

The general administration department (GAD) is believed to have given show cause notices to class I officers and section officers for their absence. The celebrations took place at the Trimoorti atrium in Mantralaya.

Fadnavis himself attended the Yoga Day celebrations at Bandra reclamation, along with vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu. Union Minister for HRD Prakash Javadekar attended Yoga Day programme at Mumbai University, and was accompanied by Minister for Education Vinod Tawde.

Since none of the ministers were present at the Yoga Day celebrations at the Mantralaya, it received a poor response. An official said that atleast 800 employees, including class I officers had registered for the celebrations, but only class III and IV employees attended the event.

According to sources, since the programme is an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the poor response at Mantralaya was taken seriously by CM Fadnavis.
