Maharashtra: 27-yr-old farmer tries to commit suicide outside Mantralya

A 27-year-old farmer, who was burdened with a loan, tried to commit suicide on Monday afternoon by attempting to set himself on fire outside Mantralaya. The police saved the youth in the nick of time and averted the mishap.

The victim, identified as Vinayak Balasaheb Vedpathak, hails from Osmanabad district.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 12:45 pm. "Vinayak had come in from one of the entry points of Mantralaya and poured kerosene on himself from a can he was carrying. Before he could set himself ablaze, a police team overpowered him and saved him," a police officer said.

The police officer further added, Vinayak was immediately taken to the Marine Drive Police Station where he was questioned about his actions. "As of now, we only know that Vinayak had taken a loan and was stressed about it," the officer said.
