The sessions court on have pulled up Shiv Sena Worker Sunil Shitap, who is booked in connection with the 2017-Ghatkopar building collapse for seeking undue advantage of the Session's court citing humanitarian grounds. The court, in its order, held that the accused is systematically moving applications to ensure he is out of the jail, thus rejecting his application of extension of his interim bail which the court had granted him on November 2. Shitap had sought the interim bail on the grounds that his mother was ill.

Shitap and other two have been accused of causing a building collapse in July 2017, as they had allegedly tampered with the pillars of the building during renovation work.

Shitap's application for seeking an extension of Interim bail read that his mother is 70 years old, fell in her house and had sustained a head injury. She was admitted to the hospital and later got discharged. "His mother wanted to spend time with her son and so he had filed an application for extension of his interim bail on humanitarian grounds for some more time," the application read.

The court earlier, on two incidents had granted him interim bail, first for a period of 10 days and further extension of the same for a period of one week.

The third extension application was filed on the grounds that mother has to undergo a procedure called brain angiography, which requires certain formalities and which becomes risky for people after they cross a certain age bar and especially for a senior citizen. "There is a rare chance of long survival of his mother and so his mother wants him to be by her side," the application read.

The prosecution, however, opposed it on the grounds that Shitap is slowing moving such extension applications and trying to take disadvantage of his interim bail.

The court, in its order, held that the initial interim bail period of 10 days ended on November 13 and all required medical treatments like the C T Scan and MRI which was scheduled was completed."Further, an extra period of one week was granted on humanitarian grounds. It appears that on one count or other, accused is moving applications systematically and thus the application deserves to be rejected," the court ordered.
