A separate trial will commence on Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal in the German Bakery blast case soon. The trial will be held in the Pune court before special judge NP Dhote.

Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria said, “At present there are two separate trials being conducted on Jundal. One in Mumbai and the other in Nashik regarding the arms haul case. He is currently lodged at the Arthur Jail in Mumbai. We will escort him to the court during the trial and when the court needs him.”

Lashkar-e-Toiba operative and Indian Mujahideen member Jundal is yet to be taken into custody by the ATS for his role in the German Bakery blast. He is one of the seven accused in the case.

Mirza Himayat Baig is the only accused among the seven who has been arrested in the GB case.

Jundal’s past
Jundal, an electrician by profession, was drawn to extremism after the Godhra riots. He came under the radar of ATS and Intelligence Bureau, after 43 kg of RDX, 16 AK-47 rifles and 4,000 rounds of ammunition were seized in Aurangabad in 2006. This, the ATS claimed, was one of the biggest hauls of arms outside Jammu and Kashmir. However, Jundal had mysteriously escaped in a blue Indica car after the seizure. Later, he was linked to the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.

Jundal was arrested in New Delhi in June, 2012, for his role as a handler in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Jundal used to reside in Gavrai village and later shifted to a village in Beed. In 2001, he took admission in Millya Arts, Science and Management college in Beed.
