IPL Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sundar Raman has resigned from his post, reports NDTV. His resignation has been accepted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In April this year, Supreme Court had allowed a plea to appoint CBI SP Vivek Priyadarshi to head a new team to investigate the IPL spot-fixing scam.

A further probe was launched against former IPL COO Sundar Raman, and the 3-judge committee will freshly look into the IPL scam. The SC also accepted the committee's request for taking services of 2G scam investigator and CBI superintendent of police Vivek Priyadarshi for probing the matter.

The apex court had asked the committee to determine the quantum of punishment due to Chennai Super Kings, 'enthusiast' Gurunath Meiyappan, Rajasthan Royals and its co-owner Raj Kundra, for betting on IPL 6 games. Consequently, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals were banned for 2 years each by the Supreme Court. Raman is still being investigated for his role in the scandal.

In October, under-fire Sundar Raman had presented a paper on the IPL, its litigations and the impact of the Lodha Committee verdict.

Raman, who was said to be former BCCI chief N Srinivasan's right hand man, is expected to end his association with the Indian board on November 5, said a Zee News report. BCCI president Shashank Manohar had earlier criticized the board's decision retain Raman post the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.

"Raman should have gone immediately after the Mudgal Committee report found him prima facie guilty of wrongdoings. He ought to have stepped down immediately at that time. Now, to restore the faith of people in IPL and the game, Raman needs to go," he had said.
