Union ministry of urban development (MoUD) and the department of economic affairs (DEA) have given in-principle approval to get funding from Asian Development Bank (ADBI) for the Dahisar East-Andheri East and Dahisar-DN Nagar metro lines. The bidding process for both the lines would commence later this month.

Both foundations for these lines were laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at Bandra Kurla Complex.

"The in-principle approval came within three days of our application for both the metro corridors. The in-principle approval was in on Saturday from the Union department of economic affairs (DEA)," UPS Madan, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner told dna.

The Union ministry of urban development too has given its in-principle nod to the MMRDA to get financing from Asian Development Bank at an interest rate of around 1.3 per cent. The MoUD, after approval, will recommend it to DEA. The loan tenure would be for a period of 30 years.

Additionally, the MMRDA is planning to initiate the bidding process later this month. "For one of the corridors, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would carry out the tendering process and construction on deposit basis. For the other line, we would carry out the process and take our executive committee's approval," said Madan.

DMRC will be interim consultants for the project till the time general consultants are appointed to implement both the metro routes.

The 18.60km-long Dahisar East-Charkop-DN Nagar line will be built on the median of Link Road, whereas Dahisar East-Andheri East corridor with a length of 16-km will be erected on the service road adjacent to north-bound lanes of the Western Express Highway.

Meanwhile, the MMRDA is in discussion with the Airports Authority of India for Dahisar plot and a private trust in Charkop to get land for a car depot for both the mass transit projects.
