Two separate petitions have been filed before the Gujarat high court challenging victory of the Congress candidate Shailesh Parmar from Danilimda and Shankar Chaudhry at Vav in Banaskantha district in the recent Assembly polls. Both the petitions are likely to come up soon for hearing before the high court.

In his petition, BJP’s candidate for Danilimda, Girish Parmar has alleged that Shailesh Parmar has wrongly issued his caste certificate in 2009 despite the fact that he fought the 2007 polls on a different caste certificate.

Parmar’s lawyer, Chitrajit Upadhyay said that a petition filed by one Ratna Vora challenging Shailesh Parmar’s victory on the ground of fake caste certificate is still pending before the HC. Despite that, Parmar got the new certificate.

One person can not have two caste certificates and hence the election commission (EC) should direct his victory as void and declare Girish Parmar as the winner.

In another petition filed with regard to Vav constituency challenging BJP candidate Shankar Chaudhry’s victory last year, an independent candidate, Hasmukh Thakkar, has raised an issue before the HC that the EC has wrongly rejected his nomination form on technical grounds. Hence, it demands that fresh election should be conducted for that post.
