'Zero' Box Office Collection Day 3: Shah Rukh Khan's film underperforms on the weekend, makes a total of Rs 59.07 Crore

According to analysts, trade was expecting a Rs 30 crore opening for 'Zero' but that clearly didn't happen as it managed to collect only Rs 20.14 crore on Friday. The romantic drama witnessed a disappointing drop on Saturday and merely earned Rs 18.22 crore. On day 3 i.e. Sunday it experienced a marginal hike and minted Rs 20.71 crore. The film now stands at a grand total of Rs 59.07 Crore.

About Zero's box office performance on Saturday, Taran Adarsh tweeted to say that the film is "struggling" with ticket sales: "Zero slips on Day 2... Biz should've witnessed solid growth on Day 2 after an underwhelming Day 1, but is struggling at the box office."

On Friday, 'Zero' opened to mixed reviews. While critics and audiences appreciated Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma's individual performances, the storyline of the Aanand L Rai directorial appeared flawed and abrupt. 

DNA's film critic Meena Iyer wrote in her review, "While the film has stand-alone witty, wacky and audacious moments, it fails to add up to a whole. Like its three lead characters -- Bauua, Aafia and Babita -- each of who is inadequate, the script too has several inconsistencies."

Trade website Box Office India said the unimpressive opening wasn’t a surprise considering the film isn’t big on massy genres like action or comedy. But the real shock came on Saturday and Sunday when collections failed to grow despite Khan’s presence.

The film may gain some ground thanks to the Christmas holiday (Tuesday) this week but the real potential will only be known post the festivities.
