In the 80s and 90s, during the heydays of the underworld’s interference in the film industry. From Mandakini to Jasmine Dhunna, many Bollywood stars have been linked to Dawood Ibrahim. Another such actress, who was rumoured to be his girlfriend, left India.
The actress we are talking about was launched by Dev Anand in Bollywood. She refused a film with Salman Khan and later quit the industry and left India to settle abroad. She is none other than Anita Ayoob.
Anita Ayoob was born in Karachi, Pakistan and she studied at a Private Girl's College and graduated from the University of Karachi with a master's degree in English literature. She came to India to study acting and was studying acting at Roshan Taneja School of Acting at Mumbai where she was trained in acting by Roshan Taneja. The actress started her career as a model. In 1993 she went to India for a commercial shoot and there Dev Anand, who was looking for a new actress. He saw her commercial and cast her for his film Pyaar Ka Tarana.
Anita finally made her Bollywood debut alongside Dev Anand in 1993 with the film Pyaar Ka Tarana, which received average reviews from the audience, however, later on became successful at the box office. She worked with Dev Anand again in the film Gangster in 1995 which was a box office success.
However, do you know that the actress rejected a film with Salman Khan? Yes, she was offered a lead role in film Bulandi with Salman Khan before it was called Nihatta. She even completed shooting some scenes with Salman, however, she refused to work further in the movie after director M.R. Shahjahan made many changes and she couldn't accept it. Later, the role was played by Somi Aly.
The actress had a long career in Pakistan and India and starred in several Urdu and Hindi films and television shows. However, her career got ruined after her rumours of dating Dawood Ibrahim. In 1995 producer Javed Siddique refused to cast the actress in his next Bollywood venture, he was reportedly shot dead by Dawood Ibrahim's men. Later, A Pakistan-based magazine Fashion Central wrote in the 90s that many in the industry thought Ayoob was a Pakistani spy and hence she was ostracized. The actress returned to Pakistan soon after.
Anita Ayoob married Saumil Patel, an Indian Gujarati businessman in 1995. After her marriage, she flew to New York and settled there with her family. She has a son named Shazer with Saumil Patel. However, she later got divorced and married Pakistani Businessman, Subak Majeed. She is now away from the limelight for long.
