The T20 World Cup final is set to showcase the tournament's two undefeated teams, with the potential for either triumph or heartbreak for opposing captains Rohit Sharma of India and Aiden Markram of South Africa. India is determined to put an end to its 11-year trophy drought in global cricket competitions, while South Africa is vying for its first men's World Cup title in any limited-overs format.
Rohit Sharma's India squad has impressively navigated through challenging pitches in the United States and the Caribbean, showcasing dominance with both bat and ball en route to their third T20 World Cup final appearance. On the other hand, Aiden Markram's South African team has displayed composure in tough game situations during the group stage and Super Eight matches.
Rohit Sharma stands as the sole active player remaining from the India lineup that secured victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa back in 2007. Similarly, Markram has exhibited exceptional leadership for South Africa throughout the tournament, which commenced on June 1st, including hard-fought victories over Bangladesh and Nepal in the group stage.
Outstanding catch by Suryakumar Yadav! It appears to be a game-changing moment as India takes the lead. Hardik Pandya follows up with a crucial wicket, catching Rabada at long on. Tabraiz Shamsi faces the final ball, resulting in just a single run.
With this victory, India secures the World Cup title!
IND 176/7 (20)
RSA 169/8 (20)
Miller scored two runs on the fourth ball. Arshdeep bowled a bouncer, which Miller pulled into the gap between deep square and mid-wicket. Another delivery from Arshdeep was a yorker, resulting in Miller getting an inside edge and earning a run. The over concluded with a dot ball.
Klaasen has been dismissed as he was caught behind by the wicketkeeper. The delivery was wide, tempting Klaasen to chase after it, but unfortunately, he could only manage to edge the ball to the keeper.
FOUR! Klaasen elegantly drives the ball through the slot for a boundary. Two consecutive wides are bowled next. SIX! Klaasen confidently steps across and powerfully slog sweeps the ball over mid-wicket, sending it crashing into the roof. Another SIX! This time, Klaasen moves deep into his crease and launches the ball over long on, the shot traveling an impressive 103 meters.
FOUR! De Kock elegantly shuffles across the crease and expertly hooks Arshdeep over the short fine leg fielder. WICKET! The strategic change in the field pays off as de Kock attempts another hook shot, only to find the waiting fine leg fielder.
SIX! With a powerful swing, Klaasen sends the ball soaring over the sweep cover for a massive six. However, Hardik's delivery is deemed a front foot no ball! QDK attempts to take advantage of the free hit by hitting it high, but only manages to score a single run.
FOUR! Width was available and Stubbs seized the opportunity, driving the delivery to the boundary at deep backward point. FOUR! This time it's QDK. He quickly assessed the line and skillfully placed the ball over extra cover for another boundary.
FOUR! The yorker is missed and Dube hammers it past mid-on to the boundary. Unfortunately, Dube is now out.
Jadeja steps in and elegantly slices the ball over point for a couple of runs. However, Jadeja's next shot sends the ball high in the air and it is caught by the mid-off fielder
Virat Kohli smashes a massive six over deep midwicket, sending the ball soaring miles away. He expertly took advantage of the ball being in the perfect position and delivered a powerful strike. However, his luck ran out as he fell victim to a slower delivery, resulting in him hitting the ball straight into the hands of the long-on fielder.
Three singles were scored off the first three deliveries. Kohli then hit a single, bringing up his fifty off 48 balls. The next delivery resulted in a boundary as Dube expertly made room outside off and cut the ball to the point boundary.
OUT! A direct hit at the bowler’s end results in Axar falling short of his crease. Kohli elegantly flicked the ball off his pads, prompting de Kock to swiftly pick it up and take aim at the stumps at the non-striker’s end with impeccable precision.
Just three singles were scored off the first four deliveries, bringing the partnership total to 51 runs. A powerful slog sweep by Axar resulted in a six, as he managed to clear the long-on fielder and secure a maximum.
Rohit Sharma is out! He attempted a sweep shot but was caught by the square leg fielder inside the circle. South Africa gets an early breakthrough. Rishabh Pant comes in at number three. Pant also tries a sweep shot, but the ball goes up in the air and is caught by de Kock.
Rohit pushes the ball towards the leg side and takes a single. Now, Kohli is on strike. The bowler sends a wide delivery outside off, and Kohli drives the ball past extra cover for a fantastic FOUR! Next up, a full delivery on the pads, and Kohli effortlessly flicks the ball towards square leg for yet another boundary.

Rohit Sharma: We're going to bat first, looks a good pitch. We've played one game here, the scores have been really good. Just about understanding indivdual roles, I know it's a big occassion but it's important to remain calm and play it like it's another international game against a good team. South Africa have been some good cricket but so have we. It's going to be a really good game between two quality teams. Different individuals have stepped up at different times and that's what we're looking forward to today as well.
Aiden Markram: Would've batted first as well, looks dry. At times we haven't been at our best but we've still managed to win and we take confidence from that. Perfect isn't possible but we want to be as close as possible to that. There's absolutely no pressure on us, we've never been in a final and we just want to enjoy it and be at our best. Same team for us.
