ENG vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah breaks Kapil Dev's record to become fastest Indian pacer to achieve this record

Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to take 100 wickets in Test matches on Monday on Day 5 of the fourth Test against England at the Oval with the wickets of Ollie Pope. Bumrah, who started this game at 97 scalps, dismissed both English openers in the first innings and needed just one more to achieve the feat.

Bumrah, amidst a sensational game-changing spell, turned the tide towards India's favour by disturbing the timber with reverse swing claiming his 100th victim and not long before he took his 101st, a couple of overs later against clean bowling Jonny Bairstow with a yorker.

Bumrah with that wicket has now taken 100 wickets in just his 24th match overtaking former India captain Kapil Dev, who achieved the feat in 25 matches. Kapil Dev is followed by Irfan Pathan (28) and Mohammed Shami (29) in the list, while Javagal Srinath did the same in 30 games.

Bumrah also has currently the best bowling average of 22.45 among the Indian bowlers to the first 100 wickets. He is followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, who averaged 24.56 when he reached the same milestone.

The 27-year old pacer's spell was one of the main reasons for India bowling out England for just 210 runs in the final innings to win the Oval Test by 157 runs and take a 2-1 lead in the series with one match still to go.
