The Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner and franchise Delhi Capitals faced a shocker as their pacer Chris Woakes has reportedly pulled out of the upcoming edition.

The England fast-bowler was acquired by Delhi for his base price of Rs 1.50 Cr in the auction.

Chris Woakes has decided to skip the IPL to keep himself fresh for the busy international summer, Sky Sports cited news agency PA. Woakes has informed Delhi Capitals of his decision and the franchise are already looking out for a replacement.

As for the Capitals, it comes as a big blow as pacers Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma are also likely to miss the tournament as they are nursing their respective injuries.

Woakes has earlier played in the IPL for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

As for the IPL, the 13th edition is scheduled to begin from March 29. The first match will be played between defending champions Mumbai Indians and last-season’s runners-up Chennai Super Kings.

Delhi will play their first match against Kings XI Punjab at home on March 30.
