Renowned England seamer James Anderson has paid tribute to the iconic India batter Sachin Tendulkar, labeling him as the greatest opponent he has ever faced on the cricket field. Anderson, who is on the brink of retirement from Test cricket following the current first Test against West Indies at Lord’s, has had an illustrious career spanning over two decades. The 41-year-old has etched his name in the record books by playing the second-highest number of Tests in the history of the sport, with a remarkable tally of 700 wickets at an impressive average of 26.52 and an economy rate of 2.79.

Throughout his 21-year-long Test career, Anderson has dismissed numerous legendary batters, with Tendulkar standing out as one of his most formidable opponents. As he prepares to bid farewell to the game, Anderson was asked to reflect on the greatest batter he has ever bowled against, and without hesitation, he singled out Tendulkar as the ultimate challenge.

“The best batter I would have to say is Sachin Tendulkar," Anderson told Sky Sports.

Notably, Anderson has had numerous memorable moments against some of the greatest batsmen in the world. He has dismissed Tendulkar nine times in Tests, along with other top players such as Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Michael Clarke, and Azhar Ali.

However, the batter Anderson has dismissed the most in his illustrious career is India's Cheteshwar Pujara, a whopping 13 times. Additionally, former Australia opener David Warner has fallen victim to Anderson's skill ten times.

The seasoned pacer shared his thoughts on the top bowlers he has encountered, highlighting Australian great Glenn McGrath and South African speedster Dale Steyn as his toughest opponents.

“The best bowler I faced was probably Glenn McGrath or Dale Steyn. Hard to pick between the two. Slightly different bowlers, but both world-class," he added.

Meanwhile, the seasoned fast bowler is determined to end his career on a high note in his final Test match by either equaling or surpassing the legendary Shane Warne's record of 708 wickets, making him the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket.
