Asia Cup 2023, IND vs NEP: India's star player Virat Kohli created a new record during the India vs Nepal Asia Cup 2023 match on Monday. The 34-year-old has surpassed New Zealand’s Ross Taylor in the list of players with the most catches in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Kohli took a one-handed catch to dismiss Nepali opener Aasif Sheikh in the 30th over bowled by pacer Siraj.

Kohli has taken 143 catches in his glittering ODI career. Kohli is only behind the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Ricky Ponting and Mahela Jayawardene. Earlier in the match, Kohli dropped a simple catch of the Nepali opener Sheikh in the second over on 1 run. The player then ended up scoring a half-century against India.

Kohli was called out by his critics on social media for dropping a simple catch. However, he later took the catch of the same batter, scripting a new record. Former New Zealand star Taylor is now fifth in the all-time list of players with most ODI catches.  Ex-India skipper Kohli is also third on the list of Indians with the most catches (303) in international cricket.

Chasing 231, India were 17 for no loss when it started raining heavily. Earlier, sent into bat, Nepal were 178 for six in 37.5 overs when the heavens opened up first time in the middle of the match. Play resumed after about one hour but no overs were lost. Opener Aasif Sheikh made 58 off 97 balls, while Kushal Bhurtel scored a 25-ball 38.
