Jailer, Nelson Dilipkumar’s latest film, has registered another strong day at the box office. The Rajinikanth-starrer has raced past the 400-crore mark in worldwide collections and the 200-crore mark in domestic earnings. With this, it has recorded the best-ever opening week for any Tamil film ever, and climbed up in the list of highest-grossing Tamil films of all time.

Jailer earned s 15 crore net domestically on Wednesday, a 58% drop from its Independence Day haul of Rs 36.50 crore. With this, the Nelson film has taken its domestic net earnings to Rs 225 crore, of which Rs 177 crore is from the Tamil version alone. The non-performance of the Kannada and Hindi dubs (combined haul of just Rs 3.8 crore) has not hurt the film much because the Telugu dub has done exceptionally well, earning Rs 44 crore and outperforming Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar there.

Jailer’s overseas performance is also solid, with the film earning $19 million in the foreign markets, taking its worldwide gross to an impressive Rs 420 crore in seven days. With this, the film has surpassed Kamal Haasan’s 2022 blockbuster Vikram, which had earned Rs 414 crore worldwide. Jailer is now the third-highest-grossing Tamil film ever, behind only Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Rajinikanth’s own film 2.0. It should cross PS1 easily and make a run for the 500-crore mark too with the pace it has but 2.0’s Rs 775 crore haul looks beyond its reach for now.

Jailer, directed by Nelson, is Rajinikanth’s comeback film of sorts and has helped reassert the actor’s numero uno status in Tamil cinema. The film also features Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon and Yogi Babu in supporting roles, along with cameos from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Tamannaah Bhatia, Kishore, and Naga Babu.
