At the Kalki 2898 AD pre-release event on Wednesday, Amitabh Bachchan surprised everyone when he touched the feet of producer C Aswini Dutt
The makers of the upcoming pan-India sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD held a grand pre-release event in Mumbai on Wednesday. Attended by the film’s director Nag Ashwin and the star cast, the event showcased the world of Kalki to the media and fans. While Prabhas’ stardom and Deepika Padukone’s baby bump where the centre of attention, Amitabh Bachchan managed to steal the show when he touched C Aswani Dutt’s feet on the stage.
What happened at the Kalki 2898 AD pre-release event
On Wednesday, as Aswini Dutt came on to the stage at the Kalki 2898 AD pre-release event, Amitabh, who was already on stage, praised him and bent to touch his feet as a mark of respect. Dutt, nine years Amitabh’s junior stepped back and in turn, bent down to touch the superstar’s feet.
Who is C Aswini Dutt, producer of Kalki 2898 AD?
C Aswini Dutt is a filmmaker and former politician, who heads the popular Vyjayanthi Movies production house. This is the production house that is bankrolling Kalki 2898 AD, the most expensive Indian film ever made. This year marks 50 years of Dutt’s entry into filmmaking, during which time he has produced over 40 films. During the course of his career, he has worked with over a dozen superstars from across the industries, including NT Rama Rao, A Nageswara Rao, Krishna, Sobhan Babu, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Rajinikanth, Dharmendra, Ajay Devgn, and now Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan too. He has ventured into Hindi film production too with films like Jaani Dost, Calcutta Mail, and Company.
C Aswini Dutt’s stellar record at box office
Interestingly, Dutt has been instrumental in turning several of these names from promising actors to superstars. He produced the first hits or breakthrough films of big names like Nagarjuna (Aakhari Poratam), Chiranjeevi (Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari), Mahesh Babu (Rajakumarudu), Vivek Oberoi (Company), Ram Charan (Chirutha),Keerthy Suresh 9Mahanati), and Dulquer Salmaan (Sita Ramam). Over the course of his career, Aswini Dutt has given 20 superhits as a producer, including landmark films like Aakhari Poratam, Indra, Chirutha, Mahanati, Company, and Sita Ramam. Many reports claim that he is worth several hundred crores but accurate figures about his wealth are unavailable.
Kalki 2898 AD is the most ambitious film produced by Dutt over the course of his career. The director Nag Ashwin is his son-in-law, having married his daughter Priyanka, a film producer herself. Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Shobhana, and Disha Patani. The film releases on June 27.
