NGO’s film to raise awareness against crimes

While a lot has been written and spoken in the media about missing kids, Amdavad continues to lose its children to human trafficking. Some of these young ones are pushed into prostitution while others work as child labourers in dangerous conditions.

Lok Rakshak Sewa Samiti, in its endeavour to raise public awareness about four major crimes in the city, has begun production of a 13-minute documentary film to extend a visual appeal for preventing these misdeeds. The video will be launched April 1 followed by a 45-day public awareness campaign.

Human trafficking, fake cops, chain snatching and cheating are major crimes plaguing this city. A new complaint in any of these matters is reported everyday in city police stations.

"Newspapers provide written information about these crimes but the visual element is missing. This documentary will train Amdavadis to recognise crime locations, criminals, and their modus operandi," says Pruthvi Bhatt, president of Lok Rakshak Sewa Samiti.

Every crime has been treated in a cinematic fashion in the 13-minute film. A message at the end of every 'crime' section will make people aware about the misdeed.

For the public awareness campaign that will ensue after release of the documentary film, Lok Rakshak Sewa Samiti has roped in services of four camel carts to roam 35 of the 64 wards of the city to propagate their anti-crime propaganda. TV sets have been installed at religious places to screen the documentary movie. A door-to-door campaign has also been planned, which will see the Samiti distribute 10,000 CDs for free.

"Also, five lakh handbills will be given out with daily newspapers," informed Bhatt.

"Our 500-strong volunteer team will be earmarked at the most troubled areas of the city (Vastrapur, Bodakdev, Satellite, etc) to help people recognise the most notorious zones. Senior citizens will benefit the most from this," added Bhatt.
