The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks on 'Sanatan Dharma', news agency ANI reported.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked a major row earlier this month with certain remarks about ‘Sanatan dharma’ during a public address.

Comparing Sanatan Dharma with the likes of malaria and dengue, Udhayanidhi Stalin had said that it should not only be opposed but “eradicated” from India during a public address.

“Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can't oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria or corona. We have to eradicate this. That's how we have to eradicate Sanatana,” Udhayanidhi Stalin was quoted by ANI.

The DMK leader’s remarks triggered outrage across the country with the BJP and Hindu right-wing groups slamming Stalin for his views. Nevertheless, Stalin remained defiant in the face of furore against his anti-Sanatan Dharma stand.
