The induction of Verma took place with much fanfare at the JD(U) headquarters in Patna, in the presence of senior leaders including the party's working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha.

Verma, a 2000 batch IAS officer who voluntarily retired in 2021, reportedly on the advice of Nitish Kumar. He has since been employed as the chief minister's close aide, who also serves as the party's leader.

Verma was personally chosen by Nitish Kumar to join the chief minister's office in 2017 as an additional advisor to the chief minister after holding the position of district magistrate for the districts of Patna and Purnea. He stayed on until 2021, at which point he decided to leave after the Centre refused to let him continue.

Verma's entry has fueled rumours about the prospect of training him to be the party's future leader, even though there has been no announcement as of yet about the responsibilities he will receive in the JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar.

Verma, a resident of Nalanda, the home area of Nitish Kumar, called him a 'yugpurush' (man of the century) in an interview with the media, adding that Kumar has an 'extraordinary persona' and is an epitome of 'true socialism' in the country.

"I am grateful to Nitish Kumar ji that despite my being an officer on deputation, he gave me crucial assignments. I served as Patna DM and headed the state's power companies. In 2021, my deputation period ended and I was required to go back to my cadre. But I chose to stay in Bihar and serve my motherland," Verma said while speaking to the press.

An IIT Delhi alumnus, Verma joined the IAS in 2000 and was assigned to the Odisha cadre. After serving in that capacity for 12 years, he requested a reassignment to his native state, claiming personal reasons.

After that, the former official worked for the Chief Minister as an Additional Advisor and was a member of the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority.
