AAP opens membership, starts mega-programme in Rajasthan

In a bid to strengthen base in Rajasthan ahead of assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a mega-campaign to get ‘active’ members on board. Adding urgency to the process of adding members, the party has termed it to be a limited time opportunity. 

“The campaign will be held from  October 1-31 and it will only be during this period that active members will be roped in to get associated for the next three years,” said Devendra Shastri, state coordinator, AAP. 

The primary membership will remain open during the period and it will only be the active members who will get to vote and participate in internal elections of the party. In order to qualify for being an active member, the volunteer will have to get 50 people associated on party’s mobile application. 

It is though common for political parties to hold membership campaigns and levy conditions for active members. By adding time condition,  the party is attempting to get its cadre active in the state ahead of the elections. 

Now, those anticipating ticket from major parties and considering AAP as a fallback plan will be under pressure to make a quick decision. The party, in the meantime, is  also busy ensuring due numbers of its members across the state who can manage the election process. AAP is yet to build a political ground  in Rajasthan and has in the past left several supporters discontented with distribution of tickets.
