Say timeless and saris will be among the first things that will come to your mind. Bangalore-based designer Nisha Deepak who thinks no different, has gone a step ahead, and made innovating this traditional and classic attire time and again her business. “A sari is something that can be conceptualised on every woman. It is eternal. So, when I considered turning a designer, saris were the obvious choice,” she says. The designer’s label, Tavare, is unique and quite naturally finds a place in the wardrobes of many a fashionista. Take a look at her new collection that sees a beautiful blend of black and white and you too won’t think twice before joining her long list of loyal clientele.

The blockprinted Chanderi and Maheshwari collection draws its inspiration from various forms in nature. Tonal prints, light weight natural fabric and a touch of sheen describe these saris the best. “The saris come with pink, yellow, green and red silk piping. I have incorporated that element to add a tinge of brightness to the saris,” explains Nisha. Simple gold zari work has also been incorporated to add to the ethnic look. Be it for a cocktail evening or a formal do, these saris ensure that you get the deserved attention. “What makes the saris wearable for any occasion are the colours. Black and white are not seasonal colours. They can be worn through the year,” Nisha says and adds, “My next collection is going to be very festive. Since major festivals like Dasara and Deepavali are fast approaching, I am planning something in gold with lotus motifs. I wanted to keep this collection minimalistic. Any way there are no festivals in month of June, so one can keep it simple and classic by going for these black and white saris.”

The black and white range is priced between Rs4300 and Rs11,000. The saris are displayed at Basava Ambara, Basavanagudi. The exhibition is on till June 14.
